Sverre Isachsen lå i en klar ledelse under søndagens runde i Global Rallycross i New York, men løpet ble rødflagget. I omstarten ble den tidligere Europamesteren påkjørt, og måtte dermed bryte løpet.
Alt lå til rette for suksess for Sverre Isachsen i helgens runde i Red Bull Global Rallycross på Long Island utenfor New York. Subaru-føreren startet med å sette den tredje beste tiden på kvalifiseringen. Så kjørte han inn til en seier, en andreplass og en tredjeplass i sine innledende heat, og sikret seg en plass på den første raden i finalen.
Sverre Isachsen gikk rett i tet i finalen og ledet klart i halvannen runde. Da hadde imidlertid konkurrenten Steve Arpin et uhell, og ble stående inntil autovernet. Arrangørene valgte derfor å rødflagge finalen, slik at den måtte startes på nytt.
– Jeg forstår ikke hvorfor de rødflagget finalen. Arpin stod ikke farlig til, og det var god plass til å kjøre forbi han, forteller Sverre Isachsen.
Også i omstarten hadde 42-åringen fra Hokksund en god start og ledet inn mot den første svingen, da han ble påkjørt av Tanner Foust og Nelson Piquet Jr. Hjulopphenget ble ødelagt, og dermed var finalen over. Isachsen ble til slutt klassifisert på en niendeplass. Tanner Foust vant løpet foran Scott Speed, og sørget dermed for dobbeltseier til Volkswagen. Nelson Piquet Jr. i Ford ble nummer tre.
– Jeg er skuffet og teamet er skuffet. Jeg blir påkjørt gang på gang, og det føles ikke rettferdig. Det er også overraskende at de velger å rødflagge finalen da jeg lå i ledelse.
Til tross for et skuffende resultat er Sverre Isachsen svært fornøyd med bilen etter helgens kjøring.
– Bilen er konkurransedyktig noe vi beviste både på kvalifiseringen og i heatene. Teamet gjør også en fantastisk god jobb, så alt ser egentlig positivt ut med tanke på resten av sesongen. Vi hadde også 250 gjester fra Subaru her denne helgen, og de har sett det gode tempoet vi viser.
Det neste løpet i Red Bull Global Rallycross er i Charlotte, North Carolina, allerede til helgen.
